The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Western Cape Government has an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to render a service which supports the fostering of a provincial identity and the protection of rights by preserving a provincial archival heritage for use by the government and the nation according to the Provincial Archives and Records Service of the Western Cape Act, 2005 (Act No. 3 of 2005). This post is based in Cape Town.

Minimum Requirements

  • An appropriate 3-year tertiary qualification (National Diploma/B-Degree or higher) in Archival studies OR With History as a major/main subject;
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in the Archival/ Collection Management or similar environment.

Recommendation

  • Knowledge and understanding of:
    • Automated storage and retrieval systems;
    • Access memory;
  • A Valid code B (or higher) driving licence.

 

Key Performance Areas

Coordinate the following:

Care of collection in archives (Stockroom and Library material), Arrangement and description of Archives collection, Digital and electronic records section;

Manage the following:

Transfer of records, Administration and section management, People management; Monitoring of Archival systems Access to memory( AtoM) and the National Automated Archival Information System (NAAIRS).

Competencies

  • Knowledge of Provincial Archives Act, policies and guidelines;
  • Proven computer literacy;
  • Ability to:
    • Process and/or describe archival collection in all formats, manage digital digital repositories;
    • Determine appropriate archival collection processing and description levels and practices for easy access and retrieval;
    • Knowledge of the standards, practices and tools for bibliographic and archival control;
    • Communication (verbal and written) skills.

Remuneration

R 376 596 per annum (Salary Level 9) Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
