The Department of Community Safety, Western Cape Government has an exciting opportunity for a researcher who can conduct quantitative and qualitative research regarding community safety, policing, crime in the Western Cape and critically analyse such information to engage with relevant stakeholders and inform evidence-based policy development. This post is based in Cape Town (CBD).

Minimum Requirements

  • An appropriate 3-year tertiary qualification (B-Degree) in Social Sciences, Law or related field of study;
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant research work experience in community safety, policing, crime or a similar environment.
  • A valid Code B (or higher) driving licence.

Recommendation

  • Post graduate qualification in Social Sciences, Law or related field of study;
  • Exposure to at least one statistical data analysis package;
  • Experience and knowledge of:
    • The civilian oversight environment;
    • Project management;
    • Research processes (Qualitative and Quantitative).

Key Performance Areas

  • Conduct research in terms of police service delivery, crime and safety, and Departmental priorities;
  • Conduct evidence-based assessments of programmes and interventions rendered by the Department and other stakeholders;
  • Design and execute special research and ad-hoc projects from taking the brief to presenting the results;
  • Conduct statistical analysis of crime and related data sets;
  • Conduct fieldwork to collect and collate data on safety and security and write research reports and make recommendations based on available data/information.

Remuneration

R 376 596 per annum (Salary Level 9) Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
