Main purpose of the position
Currently we are looking for Electrical Assistants to be based in Kenhardt, Northern Cape, South Africa who will form part of our Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning Program (ARPL). The Electrical Assistant position, is within the Operations and Maintenance function, reporting directly to the Solar Technician. During the O&M phase, the focus is on effective and productive planning to execute corrective and preventative maintenance.
As our Electrical Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting the Solar Technician with repairs, and preventative, and corrective maintenance of all PV plant equipment to exceed Plant Production KPIs.

Main responsibilities
- Assist the Technician in all related work or complete certain tasks himself of which he is capable with the supervision of the Technician.
- Learn from the Solar Technicians and completing all assigned duties
- Ensure all tools are taken care of before and after work is completed. This includes ensuring all tools are returned from job site and cleaned where required
- Identify, analyse, troubleshoot, and assist with repairs of equipment and electrical faults
- Interpreting drawings and schematics
- Plan which tool and equipment to be used with which tasks under the guidance of the Solar Technician
- Working with hands tools and equipment
- Always keep workshop with tools neat and tidy
- Be pro-active and act when required, be it cleaning or changing of light bulbs in O&M building etc.
- Housekeeping in all areas
- Perform the following duties under supervision of Technicians and authorized to perform duties: Cutting, stripping, and terminating cables
- Replacing of modules and connecting of MC4 connectors
- Perform basic electrical repairs, for instance changing an electrical, repair lights, changing light bulbs
- Testing for electrical potential before working on energized equipment
- Testing and changing fuses inside SCB
- Health & Safety: Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by: Monitoring safety equipment and tools, including PPE
- Conduct risk assessments of tasks
- Promptly report any unsafe working conditions and reporting all accidents and hazards.
- Avoid unsafe work practises at work.
- Meeting the strategies and goals of the QHSSE manual
- To ensure GST understand and follow required process and Plant Safety Regulations
- Form part of plant H&S committee meetings
Qualifications and competencies
- Minimum - N2 Certificate including the relevant trade theory subjects and a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience; Or
- Technical trade theory programs quality assured by a SETA deemed to be at NQF level 3 and a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience; Or
- Relevant Engineering NCV at NQF level 3 and a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience; Or
- Relevant (directly related to the trade theory subjects) N6 certificate or National Technical Diploma (T,S or N stream.) with 18 months relevant work experience
Code 08 Drivers License required

For this particular role, we also expect
- Adhere to company policies and procedures
- Any other ad hoc tasks are per required from the Plant Supervisor and Technicians
- Firm understanding of electricity and electrical safety
- Excellent understanding of Solar power generation and distribution
- A clear understanding of LV and HV also be able to discriminate between AC and DC voltages
- Good understanding of the PSR, ORHVS and SANS 10142
- Reliable and consistent attendance and available to work any shift, planned or unplanned overtime or public holidays as required.
- Must be able to work extended hours, weekends and public holidays, as and when required
