An opportunity has arisen for an intelligENS Analyst – Legal Data Advisory in the intelligENS department of ENS in Johannesburg or Cape Town.
We are seeking an analyst to support our Legal Data Advisory practice across various functions, including litigation, investigations, privacy, data protection, information governance, and legal operations. This role is perfect for data analytics experts looking to apply their skills in a dynamic and impactful legal setting. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of practical experience and a keen interest in legal technology and AI.
The candidate will handle the technical aspects of managing legal data matters, including data processing, early data assessment and assisting in deploying technology-driven workflows incorporating pre-trained AI models and generative AI. It is essential that the candidate demonstrates an adherence to data management practices, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance with legal standards.
In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to analyse and disseminate key concepts from structured and unstructured data, as well as, collaborate with legal teams to understand case requirements and prepare reports and documentation related to evidentiary processes.
The work:
The candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our legal and forensic teams by providing expert services in electronic discovery, data management, and digital evidence handling across a broad spectrum of varied and interesting areas, including forensic investigations, disputes, due diligence, data breach responses and data subject access requests.

You will work closely with our project management and review management teams to ensure efficient processing, review and analysis, and production of electronic documents using RelativityOne.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and manage electronic data for eDiscovery in accordance with local and international best practices, including data collection, extraction, conversion, and indexing.
- Perform initial data analysis, reporting findings, and support data review and categorisation for various legal matters.
- Execute data processing, quality assurance, and manage data-related queries, ensuring data integrity.
- Utilise and run various search tools for discovery requests and forensic investigations, including incorporating intelligENS’ automated tools.
- Assist in document production, data exports for legal proceedings, and support senior team members in eDiscovery tasks.
- Collaborate with project managers and attorneys to refine data search and review strategies, ensuring client expectations are met throughout the eDiscovery lifecycle.
- Stay informed about the latest eDiscovery technologies and practices, recommending and implementing improvements.
- Effectively communicate with internal teams about eDiscovery processes and findings.
Skills, Abilities and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Analytics, Law or related field.
- Two years of experience in a technical role, preferably in eDiscovery or similar role, such as, data analytics and database administration or within a legal or corporate environment handling legal or forensic matters.
- Certifications in RelativityOne, Python or R Programming or SQL desirable.
- Knowledge of RegEx, Machine Learning and AI, and Big Data Technologies desirable.
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
