Position Overview
American International School of Johannesburg seeks to recruit an experienced cleaner to join our team on a Fixed Term Contract. Successful candidates should ensure that the school buildings are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness. Buildings include but are not limited to, classrooms, laboratories, offices, and communal areas such as stairs, corridors, and sports centres.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure buildings are maintained and cleaned to meet the required standard
- Perform daily routine and detail cleaning of campus building interior and exterior areas assigned by supervisor.
- Ensure all work is carried out in a cost effective and competent manner.
- Effective communication with all internal and external customers
- Carry out visual inspection on all machinery and equipment prior to use.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and the use of Personal Protective Equipment where appropriate.
- Ensure visibility of slippery and other warning notices when carrying out cleaning operations
- Be aware of Emergency Procedures
- Adhere to cleaning colour coding at all times.
- Be aware of risk Assessments associated with activities.
- Manage workload accordingly to avoid unnecessary extended hours.
- Show a solid understanding of customer needs, seeks out customer input to better understand needs, and develops ideas to meet those needs.
- Follow through on commitments, despite time pressures or obstacles, and maintains relevant communication with customers until job is completed.
- Provide feedback and healthy dialogue on performance and operational issues,
- Adapts easily to changes and adheres to decided actions.
- Successful candidate will be expected to assist in other duties within the department at times of heavy workload, sickness, and staff absences.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 is essential
- Basic cleaning certificate is a bonus
- Cleaning experience within a school environment is desirable
- Experience of cleaning procedures and the use of cleaning equipment.
- Knowledge of Manual Handling and general Health and Safety legislation.
- Excellent time-management skills
- Honest and respectful manner
- Flexible approach to work

Working Hours
- Dayshift – 07:00a.m. – 16:00 p.m.
- Nightshift – 14:30p.m. – 22:30 p.m. (Nightshift will be accommodated on campus)
