Systems Engineer II at Nedbank

Job Purpose

To provide zOS (i.e. IBM mainframe OS), specialist technical expertise and support in installing; testing; tuning; optimising; diagnosing problems; repairing; upgrading and maintaining both externally and internally supplied hardware and systems software (i.e. Operating systems; data management products; office automation products; embedded systems); and other utility enabling software and related equipment.

Job Responsibilities

1. Maintains the installation of the zOS (i.e. IBM mainframe OS) software configuration procedures to ensure reliability and performance

2. Resolve issues by inspecting malfunctioning computer hardware, software and/or components - analysing cause.

3. Recommend solutions through the investigation of service problems

4.  Support the business process needs by performing and consulting on a variety of technical tasks in the diagnosis, repair, maintenance and installation of computers and/or related equipment

5. Ensure documentation for relevant systems software product and operational documents are prepared and maintained

6. Support technology decisions by maintaining awareness of existing and emerging software and hardware solutions

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

• Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Minimum Experience Level

• 5 years plus exposure to the  zOS mainframe  environment with minimum of  years Systems Engineering

Technical / Professional Knowledge

• Experience working in a large MVS, JES2 mainframe environment
• Experience with SMP/E installs required
• HMC – operations of the hardware management configuration
• Workload manager
• 5+ years of experience in the technical support field
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
