As a Fixed Network COM Technician, you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include: 

  • Maintenance and operation of two-way terrestrial radio system.
  • The overall infrastructure is inspected, and any deviations are reported and/or rectified.
  • Equipment is inspected for functionality and any deviations are rectified or reported to the supervisor.
  • Maintain, diagnose faults and repair instruments, equipment and systems, and install equipment and components according to specifications to ensure availability as per set limits.
  • Climb radio towers of height up to 100m to perform tasks.
  • Perform 24/7 standby duties on a rotational basis.
  • Assist Supervisor with compilation and review of WI’s to ensure maintenance of equipment.
  • Manage the section's expenditure within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control and savings.
  • Manage a safe and healthy work environment where workers and contractor can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
  • Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance with statutory requirements is met.
  • Provide innovative solutions to improve the safety and performance of equipment.

This role is in the AS&R: Maintenance Planning Department on a Band 7 reporting to the Engineering Technologist.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • National Diploma (Electrical Engineering-Light Current).
  • B-Tech Electrical Engineering (Advantageous).
  • Valid South African Driver’s Licence.

Experience:

  • 3 years of Operational exposure (in communication hardware is essential).
  • Telemetry and two-way radio experience is essential.
  • Two-way radio fault-finding experience.
  • Working at heights.
  • MS Office experience.
