Position Purpose:

To manage cost control of projects through the application of cost control methods and techniques, providing effective integrated project services to Transnet National Port Authorities and operating divisions

Position outputs:

  • Provide expert costing and estimating services to the projects using software approved by TNPA Project Services.
  • Regular interaction with clients to ensure a professional service is delivered.
  • Ensure adherence to and the effective use of tools, TNPA’s systems and procedures.
  • Implementing new business procedures congruent to best practices.
  • Comply with all requirements of the Project Execution Plans (PEP) and PLP (Project Lifecycle Process).
  • Prepare and present detailed monthly status reports.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A National Diploma or relevant tertiary qualification.
  • CCT (certified cost technician) added advantage.
  • +5 years experience as a cost engineer or similar in a multidiscipline project environment

Knowledge:

  • Preferred – basic technical knowledge of engineering and construction projects.
  • Preferred – technical overview of work methods and techniques.
  • Set-up of project FBS/WBS/CBS
  • In-depth knowledge of project budgeting principles and methodologies: set-up, distribution, maintenance and monitoring
  • Cost monitoring and control.
  • Forecasting of final costs, including cash flow, commitments and escalation forecasting.
  • Earned Value Management principles and reporting.
  • Estimating methodologies
  • NEC contracts administration
  • Basic Quantity surveying principles
  • Basic Planning & scheduling principles
  • Risk management principles
  • Regular Reporting on Actual vs Planned/Budget vs FFC and deviations.
  • Follow up on variances and corrective actions required with project managers.
  • Preparation of monthly cost & schedule performance indicators and S-curve graphs.
  • Knowledge of SAP (PS) and Reporting
  • Interface and coordination with Finance, Procurement and all relevant project support functions.
  • PLP (project-life-cycle process) principles.
  • Good knowledge of project management principles
