Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Engaging in SHEQ and Supply Chain workshops and meetings to share organizational design approaches, plans, and roadmaps.
  • Continuously researching and learning about the current global thinking on environmental management in general and in the bottling industry specifically.
  • Introducing new and thought-leading environmental management ideas and programs into the enterprise and keeping stakeholders abreast with current thinking and legislation, including systems.
  • Acting as a coach and mentor to internal colleagues, providing guidance and assistance to countries for all internal environmental impact and integrity standards to ensure CCBA license to operate.
  • Analyzing external international and national global trends in the environmental domain to identify the innovations, best practices, and solutions that CCBA should adopt.
  • Analyzing current internal processes, solutions, and services to identify weaknesses, non-compliance, risks, and areas for improvement.
  • Ensuring annual legal audits are executed in the organizations and that systems to review local environmental legal information is available and reviewed.

  • Collaborating with relevant members of the corporate and in-country teams to formulate and socialise strategies and related plans for the most effective execution of all aspects of wastewater and waste compliance to achieve objectives and targets.
  • Workshopping, agreeing, and socialising the environmental metrics, targets, and objectives for CCBA in the short, medium, and long term (relating to compliance and waste reduction and internal recycling).
  • Driving capability to ensure compliance to discharge permits as well as ensuring visibility around the permit systems in CCBA that is mostly required by legislation.
  • Providing guidance and assistance to CCBA countries related to the permit conditions and standards and Supply Chain manufacturing ways ensuring that the maturity assessments are aligned with the SHEQ strategic direction.
  • Providing guidance and enforcing the implementation and maintenance of SHEQ systems, particularly environmental management systems.
  • Ensuring that non-compliance to environmental permits, licences and internal standards are investigated to determine root causes and providing expertise on mitigation actions. 
  • Developing a system of managing environmental compliance permits and providing guidance and enforcing implementation of activities to ensure these are maintained.
  • Regularly engaging with employees, line managers and different stakeholder communities to share information on the CCBA internal environmental philosophies, strategies, targets, and progress to achieving targets.
  • Assisting plants to evaluate environmental compliance against TCCC and CCBA standards and ensuring proper disposal and management methods, including ISO 14001 certification.
  • Evaluating the readiness of plants for audits as determined by the Group Head: SHEQ.
  • Overseeing environmental training for employees at all levels (related to waste, recycling and other compliance related issues).
  • Ensuring that relevant training material is incorporated into CCBA capability building initiatives.
  • Providing coaching and mentoring to operational SHEQ staff on matters specifically relating to environmental matters.
  • Providing relevant business colleagues access to resources and tools to implement environmental standards and systems – ensuring relevant systems roll out and improved system use maturity.
  • Maintaining management information systems that ensure permit conditions are met, identifies the location of practices that will result in negative environmental impact and support, and automate complaint investigations.
  • Collaborating with other colleagues to support CCBA Supply Chain departments to prepare for audits and to close out corrective action plans.
  • Reviewing plant targets for all environmental measures against TCCC and CCBA objectives, including previous performance.
  • Collecting, analysing, and managing environmental data and contributing to the preparation of environmental reports for regulatory submissions and other environmental media.
  • Engaging in SHEQ workshops and meetings to share operational design approaches, plans and roadmaps to meet internal environmental standards.
  • Meeting regularly with SHEQ, PAC and other Supply Chain Sustainability colleagues involved in the environmental facet.

Skills, Experience & Education

Qualifications:

  • The minimum qualification required for this job is a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Engineering, Sustainability, Biology or Chemistry or Engineering.
  • An Honours Degree in Environmental Science / Engineering would be advantageous or equivalent with a business qualification.
  • Relevant certifications in hazardous waste managing and environmental laws and regulations.

Experience:

  • 10 to 12 years’ experience in a manufacturing or production environment focused on environmental management:
  • Experience working and with and developing Environmental Management systems and processes.
  • Experience in facilitating environmental teams and processes.
  • Environmental experience in multiple countries at varying degrees of maturity and proven track record of capability building and coaching.
