TB HIV Care (THC), in existence since 1929, is an internationally recognized non-profit organization. We provide health care services throughout South Africa to both the general population and communities at increased risk for HIV and TB, including adolescent girls and young women, sex workers, and people who use drugs.

Purpose of the position:

The Professional Nurse Counsellor will be required to oversee and do study implementation, (e.g. blood draw, rapid testing, counseling, referrals etc.), including field staff activities, quality control of data collection and data entry, liaising closely with the People Who Use Drugs program teams and reporting investigators at the study site

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and participates in research related training and mentoring activities
  • Participates in clinical activities such as collection of biological specimens (blood and sputum)
  • Preparation of dry blood samples and plasma separation cards
  • Biological sample transport monitoring
  • Referral for services; initiation or onsite referral for PrEP and ART initiation, STI treatment; HBV vaccination
  • Review and action of test results
  • Ensures the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities
  • Conducts daily and weekly review of data
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and serves as a point of contact between regional/district level stakeholders and Investigative team

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree/Diploma in Nursing qualification
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse
  • 3 years’ experience in clinical trial/research coordination
  • Experience in research with key populations, ideally with people who use drugs
  • NIMART accreditation would be an advantage
  • Clear criminal record
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Fluent in isiZulu and English languages
