Job Description: Responsibilities & Requirements


nGAP lecturers will be appointed on the university's staff establishment as permanent staff at the outset of employment, subject to satisfactory performance. The nGAP involves the recruitment, support and retention of highly capable young scholars as new academics.

These positions are funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) for a period of six years, after which the University will provide funding.

The nGAP Programme provides a wonderful supporting environment for aspirant academics to complete their studies while developing teaching and learning, research and innovation as well as community engagement skills.

Duties:

  • Lecture and supervise students at the undergraduate and postgraduate level 
  • Initiate and be involved in community engagement initiatives 
  • Curriculum and programme development
  • Setting and assessment of exam papers and assessing a portfolio of evidence 
  • Undertake research 
  • Involvement in departmental research and publications 
  • Assist with administrative duties in the department and/or faculty 
  • Attendance of developmental workshops for teaching and learning 
  • Participation in tutoring and mentoring activities 
  • Participation in all components and activities of the nGAP programme for the duration of the contract.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Master`s degree in Nursing Sciences with an average pass mark of 70% 
  • Eligibility and willingness to register and complete a Doctoral degree in the relevant field of specialization during the first three years of employment as an nGAP Lecturer
  • Be 40 years or younger 
  • Be willing to commit to placement at the University of Venda for the full six (6) years of the programme consisting of three years of development and three years of induction as an academic 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in discharging duties 
  • Computer literacy. Teaching and research ability is highly recommended.
