As a research-intensive university, we are in the process of re-conceptualizing libraries to align with our needs in the 21st century. We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, experienced and innovative person for the position of Senior Library Assistant: Acquisitions. The incumbent will acquire resources for the University libraries.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure financial control by checking that invoices are allocated correctly and timeously
  • Pass original allocated invoices to Library Finance for payment
  • Pay invoices and keep track of expenditure
  • Monitor exchange rate for optimal payment of invoices
  • Handle invoice and supplier queries
  • Place orders for all faculties and schools in the University
  • Bibliographic record creation
  • Supplier and account administration
  • Manage continuation/standing orders and processing of donations

The person in this post reports to the Senior Acquisitions Librarian

Qualifications and Required Skills:

  • Matric
  • National Diploma in Accounting or similar
  • Minimum 2 years working in an academic or similar large library

Skills:

  • Computer literacy skills
  • Numeracy skills
  • Good communication skills

Knowledge:

  • Financial information and its implication on budget forecasting
  • Financial procedures on the acquisitions module of the ILS
  • Knowledge and experience in handling orders and invoices within Library Technical Services (Acquisitions) department an added advantage

Recommendation:

It is highly recommended that interested candidates be registered members of the professional body: Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA)
