Duties & Responsibilities
- Must follow instructions from the artisan/management, and be able to carry out daily duties without supervision.
- Prepare equipment that is to be repaired by Artisan by scraping, cleaning etc.
- Prepare joints flange faces by scraping, hand wire brushing using power tools to ensure that surfaces satisfy for the correct jointing.
- Prepare equipment for use and ensure correct tools are available for the job.
- Ensure that oxygen and Acetylene bottles are full and replaced when empty.
- Will be required to fetch cutting torches and collect pneumatic power tools, ensuring that the hoses, fittings are in good condition and available when required.
- Prepare portable/electrical equipment for use when necessary and report any defects to the Artisan/Supervisor.
- Assists Artisan with minor rigging work, obtain slings and chain blocks, and must be able to use the lifting equipment.
- Priority is to keep work place clean, tidy at all times, that is in plant area and workshops, oil stores etc.
- Clearing all scrap material after work being complete and discard in the recycle bins provided in work area.
- Observe and report unsafe conditions to the Operator, Artisan and Supervision.
- Assist Artisan when additional labour is required that’s to position pipework, machinery, equipment etc.
- Supervise unskilled labour (contractors, visitors) who assist in heavy work, ensures safety is maintained at all times.
- Must have knowledge of tools and spares kept in storeroom.
- Must report any irregularities encountered on the plant and workshop.
- Might be required to collect tools, equipment from stores and steam line inspections and shutdown.

Qualifications & Experience
- Matric/Grade 12/Equivalent
- Boilers/Workshop experience will be an advantage
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions, walking, climbing, lifting etc.
- Must be able to work around moving machinery, in the vicinity of very hot pipes, vessels under pressure +- 430 degrees Celsius and heights in confined spaces and in dusty atmosphere.
- Must be able to work in very hot conditions and adhere to safety procedures.
- Ability to work standby and overtime as and when required
- Must be physically fit
- Driver’s license will be a benefit.
