Java Backend Engineer - Triggerise

The Company

We are a fast-growing non-profit social enterprise with offices in the Netherlands, Portugal, South Africa, Kenya, and Ethiopia. Triggerise builds digital platforms that motivate users - primarily young women and adolescent girls - to make positive choices. We work together with local communities and use nudges like reminders, discounts, and reward points to encourage our users to access and use health products and services. We also support our users in becoming entrepreneurs and adding value to their economies.

The Job

You will form an integral part of our Agile tech team who is responsible for creating and maintaining the software that allows our platform to function. You’ll also be responsible for:

• You maintain and develop new features on our software platform. You apply the principles of software engineering to the design, development, maintenance, testing, and evaluation of our software.
• You make sure the software you develop is secure and safe with regards to information security & personal data.
• We expect you to actively participate in meetings and projects and to coordinate with your team members. We also expect you to continue to develop yourself and keep abreast of new developments. 
• You document your work and make sure that your documentation is clear and understandable for future use by others. 
• Our team works in an agile way and you will be part of the rituals and practices. 

About you

You have in-depth development experience using Java and building software from the ground up. You’re a logical thinker and a natural problem solver who wants to use your technical skillset to make an impact.

Requirements:  

• You are based in Portugal/Kenya/South Africa.
• You hold a minimum of 2 years of working experience in a software development role.

• You have worked extensively with several Java backend tools and frameworks.
• You don’t want to just write code, you want to make it with quality and scalable.
• Experience within Microservices, and AWS will be an advantage. 
• You are willing to learn. We use SpringBoot, JUnit, Testcontainers, Flyway, among others (You aren't required to have experience with the specific tools we are currently using, we can help you).
