Job Description: Responsibilities & Requirements


KFC has an opportunity for a Graduate Junior Interior Designer or Architect to obtain first-hand experience within one of the world’s leading QSR retail brands and fastest-growing QSR brands in Africa. The function of the role will be: 

  • To support the Design Manager in coordinating plan approval for all new restaurants and remodels to ensure they are designed and planned according to rigid KFC Africa Standards
  • To support the design team in invigorating new design standards to improve the customer experience
  • To support the development and REX (Restaurant Operational Excellence) team in developing design standards/ site-specific design layouts

Key Responsibilities will include:

Plan Approval Process (65%)

  • Support the Plan approvals manager in Collating, reviewing, monitoring all plan approvals for franchise and equity submissions (new, relocates and remodels)

  • Maintain updated project database and pipeline for each site (franchise & equity). This would include storage and distribution of drawings, photographs, scoping reports, sign off documentation etc

Restaurant design and execution (25% of the time)

  • Support Africa Design Team in executing a design and asset strategy related to ‘building the big brand’ for KFC throughout Africa. When necessary, produce and provide site plans and internal layouts to support the development team in delivering pipeline
  • Support Design Team in producing generic designs including 3D visualizations and brand standard documentation
  • Maintain full knowledge of current planning, building and health codes, regulations and ordinances, and other associated standards and ensure these are reflected in current KFC design standards
  • Post-implementation review and recommendations, including preparation of detailed briefing and instructions to consultants, franchisees and other internal stakeholders

Other (10%)

  • Special projects as needed by the Development team
  • Restaurant Training (LAS) Leading a Shift
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Architectural / Interior Design Degree essential
  • Masters in Interior Architecture or Masters in Architecture preferred

Required Competencies and Experience/Skills:

  • Strong spatial planning and visualization skills
  • An understanding of construction processes and systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
  • A strong interest in retail design and creating great customer experiences
  • Strong working knowledge of Autocad, Revit, Blue Beam, Corel Draw and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Indesign) and other 3D visualization software
  • Sound organisational skills and process orientated
  • Strong understanding of design and space planning
  • Ability to work with people and build strong relationships
