Position Purpose:

  • To inspect and verify cargo & record details for revenue purposes to ensure the correct cargo is shipped and landed using a
  • Hand Held Scanner to avoid claims. (Sea side).
  • To ensure and verify that Cargo is stacked and arranged in the right position and accurate (land side)

 

Position outputs:

  • Obtain hand over and loading instructions
  • Allocate General Workers to hook
  • Check incoming and outgoing Cargo by using Tally Sheet
  • Supervise Port Workers in terms of hooking
  • Complete incident / accident report
  • Inspect cargo/ container on truck for damages
  • Scan ( P-check) container via HHT into NAVIS
  • Complete Container Inspection Form for damages to container/s (CIR)
  • Monitor and instruct drivers during shift
  • Scrutinise landing orders for despatching of cargo
  • Locate cargo and instruct driver to uplift

  • Instruct Port Workers to place dunnage (specialised gear)
  • Compare shipping order from driver to one in possession
  • Position cargo according to stack plan
  • Obtain list of cargo to be loaded onto rail truck from agent
  • Report all breakdowns / accidents
  • Identify vessels working
  • Attend on board meeting if required
  • Obtain manifest 72 hours before arrival of vessel
  • Scrutinise manifest and obtain landing orders
  • Cross reference landing orders against manifest by verifying with that cargo goes to the right customer
  • Obtain (tally) from wharf
  • Identify short landed cargo and follow up.
  • Adhere to Safety and Environment

Water Side :Record delays on delay sheet

Break Bulk (only)

  • Complete delivery note and hand to driver (Break Bulk)
  • Ensure truck mass is not exceeded (Break Bulk)
  • Complete loading out list and ensure trucks are closed (Break Bulk)
  • Make out truck labels ((Break Bulk)
  • Check Tallies against manifest (break Bulk)

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Matric/NQF Level 4
  • 2 years’ relevant experience in Port Operations/ Maritime Services/warehouse telly clerk.
  • Relevant Cargo Controller Certificate is an added advantage
