Department: Group Communication and Marketing

Branch: Marketing Directorate

Workplace: 158 Civic Boulevard, Metro Centre

Designation: Graphic Designer

Salary Range: R8 329.27 pm (cost-to-company, basic salary, no benefits)

Primary Function:

Provide a graphic design service as well as administrative support within the Marketing Unit of Group Communication and Marketing Department.

Key Learning Areas:

  • Conferring with clients and key stakeholders of the department to determine design requirements.
  • Designing client proposals and working with clients to ensure that the endproduct meets their business objectives and requirements.
  • Briefing and advising clients on compliance with the City’s corporate identity.
  • Developing innovative illustrations, graphics and layouts in a variety of formats for different platforms, and using graphic design tools including design software.
  • Producing drafts for review and presenting final designs for sign-off by clients.

Leading Competencies:

  • Work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Articulate ideas to clients and stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail, patience and concentration.
  • Accountability and time management.

  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of design software.

Appointment Requirements:

  • Matric (NQF 4) plus certificate or diploma in Graphic Design or relevant field at NQF 6 (subjects that include visual arts may be an advantage);
  • Must be creative and have know-how of image processing software;
  • Portfolio of most recent work/assignments must be included in the application;
  • Computer literacy (MS Office applications);
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite/Adobe Creative Cloud is an advantage;
  • Must be able to work extended hours as and when required;
  • Open to applicants not older than 35; and
  • Only City of Joburg residents will be considered.
