Sappi Stanger Mill requires a Communications Officer to implement the communications strategy for Sappi Stanger mill and execute communication-related activities across the mill.

This role reports in to the Communications Manager.

 

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Contribute and follow through of the implementation of the regional communication strategy and plan for Sappi SA in terms of Ngodwana Mill: Internal communications; Internal Media and Public Relations; Community Relations; Crisis and Risk communication preparation; Corporate Citizenship; Stakeholder relations; Sponsorship and Event Management.

  • Implement communication plans in line with the overall Sappi Strategy and follow-up.
  • Alignment and consistency of their activities with the communication mission approach and strategy of Sappi SA.
  • Implementation of the communication related policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of media responses for the Company spokesperson.
  • Provide tactical communication support to relevant stakeholders.
  • Write and proof read internal newsletter.
  • Undertake formal and informal communications research as required by strategy and compile reports.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers including: events, catering, corporate stock, cleaning, design etc.
  • Execute project budgets for assigned communication projects.
  • Manage events and oversee venue preparation as per communication strategy.
  • Analyse and make recommendations on requests for corporate citizenship support.
  • Identify, investigate and recommend key opportunities in support of the strategy and plan.
  • Support the building of relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Build relationships with external consultants and service providers including participating in the tender and selection process on a project basis.
  • Assist with the evaluation of project media coverage impact and assist in the making of recommendations.
  • Provide functional and administrative support for the execution of relevant projects and plans.
  • Ad hoc requests as per business requirements.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Relevant public relations / communications qualification.
  • At least three years’ relevant experience in:
    • Internal Communications (Newsletters, news boards, screens etc)
    • External communications (CSI, donations etc)
    • Event Management
    • Campaigns
  • Code 08 drivers’ license with three years driving experience.
  • Own transport
