Key Outputs

  • Responsible for continuous performance management, quality management and people management Follow a process of consultation, investigation, referral and treatment are followed Systems to support multilateral communication between patient: doctor; and treating: referring doctors are adhered to
  • A recognised triage system and professional ethics are maintained Emergency Unit policies and procedures are adhered to and the medical equipment is kept in a good working order and discrepancies are reported to head of emergency unit
  • Clinical notes are written legibly and according to procedure Health and Safety Act requirements are adhered to and continuous quality improvement projects are maintained
  • Record keeping is done on approved Mediclinic documentation according to the Scientific
  • Clinical Process Client expectations are met, and quality client service principles maintained
  • Maintains a safe working environment according to health and safety standards
  • Quality client care principles maintained.

Requirements

  • A MBchB qualification and registration with the HPCSA as an independent medical practitioner is a minimum requirement It is essential to have current certification in ACLS, ATLS and APLS
  • A Diploma in Primary Emergency Care (DipPEC) from the College of Emergency Medicine of South Africa would be advantageous Prior experience in a similar role would be an advantage Shift work is a necessity in accordance with the requirements of the unit
  • Knowledge of the statutory requirements around practice in an emergency centre is required such as the Child Health Care Act and the Mental Health Care Act Demonstrate competence in medical procedures and perform clinical evaluations according to the guidelines To describe the process of handling a medico-legal risk according to the emergency unit policy
  • To name and apply relevant statutory requirements and regulations and the ability to delegate and perform tasks according to Scope of Practice
  • Must be able to define and identify medico-legal risks in the emergency unit environment
  • The ability to arrive at logical conclusions and to display sound sense in the solution of problems
  • The ability to provide clear instructions and/or information to direct reports, clients, managers and team members Must be able to provide health education to patient according to the specific procedure
  • Engages in the effective use of self-assessment and self-management techniques in order to proactively and continuously improve own performance
  • The ability to demonstrate the effective use of patience in day-to-day performance
  • The ability to demonstrate an understanding with regards to the nature of service culture and the process of building it
  • Understands, supports and promotes the worth of individual and group differences for the benefit of individual employees, the organisation and the community as a whole
